L says, "hey wake up and get your glasses on and check this out..." both the tv and computer are on and all that's on tv is some infomercial so i just assume it's something online and i turn my attention to the computer. until L says, "tell me that's not [former co-worker] on tv..." i had only seen this former co-worker a few times so i was like, "yeah sure does look like him..." but all doubt was erased as soon as he (former co-worker) started talking on air. and then a few minutes later his name showed up in the captions. right next to the name of the product being sold. the product being a hot new personal lubricant product. which he (former co-worker) proceeded to discuss, with the host of the infomercial, for as long as we were willing to watch until we just got too weirded out and had to change the channel. best "where are they now, former co-workers edition" moment ever! by the way, spank juice is not the name of the product. that is the name of the fake product that L proceeded to make up today when we were thinking back to how weird it was to see former co-worker on tv last night. L made up a tag line for his fake product too: when you're too naughty for ordinary lubricant! hahaha! yeah he is seriously disturbed.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

ha i just logged in to see if i still remember the password and yeah i guess i still do. it’s summer time and i’m loving it. except that recently it’s hot hot hot here. and humid. it’s nice and cool in the morning but after about noon time our place is an oven, even with fans. so if i’m not productive in the morning time then i don’t end up getting much stuff done because it’s just too hot in the afternoon to get stuff done and then i’ve given up on getting any stuff done by the evening time and then i just vow to try again the next day. but three mornings a week i have ballet and that takes pretty much the whole morning. so that leaves only a few other mornings to try and get some stuff done. in any case, i’m not getting a lot of stuff done that i’m supposed to be getting done this summer. gah.

i just got my tiger t-shirt in the mail. from topshop. love the tiger print. but why oh why did they have to make it a sleeveless shirt? they basically just cut the sleeves off. why didn’t they just leave the sleeves on and give people the option of cutting off the sleeves themselves? it would take less than a minute with some good scissors. so yeah i wish it still had sleeves but i loved the tiger print so much i had to get it, even sans sleeves. it’s really big and comfy and it’s black and white so it goes with everything… i think it will be my new uniform.

two more things: 1) i need to go now to play pian-o. 2) this blog is lame-o.

Thursday, December 18, 2008

The first graders have been preparing to sing some holiday songs this week. I was explaining to them that "O Tannenbaum" means "Oh Christmas Tree" in German. And I made sure the students were pronouncing the words correctly. In the hallway after school I ran into a grandparent (of a very serious child, not one to goof off in class very easily) who said they were very excited to see the performance. And then she said, "I had to tell you, because I thought it was funny, that my grandson thought the words to 'O Tannenbaum' were 'Atomic bomb' and he kept singing it like that at home until I corrected him." Oops... I guess that just shows how much the students pay attention to me. "Oh he did say he thought it was German though," she added. Well okay so they are sort of paying attention... haha.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Here is where we went last weekend. Well okay we really went to San Francisco for my cousin’s wedding and a family reunion of sorts. But on the way home we stopped by the abandoned airfield at Crows Landing since we had wondered about it the last few times we’d driven past the Crows Landing exit. Well okay so it was more like we were wondering about the freeway-side facility which turns out to be a big trash incinerator facility run by Covanta Energy Corp. and we came across the airfield info as well. And we like old abandoned structures. And tumbleweeds! The last picture on the Crows Landing portion of that website (the abandoned control tower) is pretty much similar to what we saw. We were also hoping to see a more abandoned version of something like this. But we ended up just seeing some of the old radar equipment from that photo, sitting around in an open lot with lots of tumbleweeds. Of course there were crows! And there was the most beautiful bunch of giant agave with dried-out flower spikes that must have been at least three times my height! We took photos but I’m too lazy to go get them now. Maybe I’ll put them on flickr at some other time. Trust me the agave bunch was super cool though. Gigantic!

Friday, November 14, 2008

Aaaaargh. I’ve been coughing my head off for two weeks straight. Went to the doctor last week to make sure it wasn’t anything worse and to get some good ol’ cough syrup with codeine in it. Which I’ve taken in the past and have been fine with it. But this time they also gave me prednisone and antibiotics. Because the day before my doctor’s appointment I just happened to get a spider bite. Nothing poisonous but it made my entire thumb swell up and I somehow got these weird spots all over me (they were calling it a systemic reaction?) and they were worried since I’ve had bad reactions to common insect bites in the past. So in the past week I’ve not only been living with a wicked cough and an itchy thumb. But I’ve been sick to my stomach and dizzy from all the meds. AND I’ve had insomnia which I NEVER have (I’m usually more on the narcoleptic side if anything). Mixed together these meds have left me feeling worse than just the cough itself! So last night I finished the last of the meds and today I’m finally feeling a little like myself again. Never have I been so thankful to just be fighting the remains of a nagging cough and on my way to being healthy again. Obviously this was nothing compared to what some people go through on a daily basis but for me this was pretty bad. I threw up more times this week (like four times) than in my entire life up to now! Blah…. while sick I also missed two days of school (would have been more had we not had a four-day weekend), three ballet classes and rehearsals, six yoga classes, countless hours of peaceful sleep… Anyway I just thought I would write this update to complain. What good is a blog if you can’t complain when you’re sick? I told Meow I know what she felt like when they gave her these meds that made her tummy sick. And I told L that I am really thankful for his homemade soups… leek and garlic soup, butternut squash soup… he makes the yummiest homemade soups and they have made me feel better when nothing much else could these past two weeks.

Sunday, October 05, 2008

Woe is this blog. Time sure flies when you're having fun. Or when you
have Facebook. I'm not all that into using Facebook but it's a lot
easier to update a status line than write in complete sentences on this
blog... not that anyone is saying that one must absolutely blog in
complete sentences but you know what I mean! So yeah summer was really
fun. The nice beach trail was open again so we walked that a lot, went
out for breakfast a lot, did yoga a lot, and I did zero summer ballet.
Oh and we went to Turkey! If you really want to be bored to tears,
check out the travel photos on flickr. Okay fast-forward to now... in
spite of all the talk of monumental budget cuts to education in this
state, I still have a job - yay! So recently I've been back to going to
work and school and ballet as usual. And yoga. And lots of little
weekend trips to the Land Of The Very Hot for this and that. And did I
mention that a ton of people we know are getting, or have gotten,
married this year? It's a record-breaking number for us. I think by the
year's end there will have been at least ten weddings? Not all of which
we attended but still... that's a lot. We've been to a few so far this
year and then we still have like two more to go. Craziness. What else
is new? Oh yes. L's grown a beard. And I just got new eyeglasses.
End of update! =)

Monday, July 14, 2008

So I was just on facebook and saw that one of my
non-local friends, that I only know through yoga, had recently updated
her status and it read “N is in the fire!!!!” and I saw that she just
happened to be online so…. anyway here is how our chat went:

--------

Me: which fire are you in and are you okay?

N: hi! i am in the fire of transformation and it rocks and i am PERFECT! thanks

Me: oh okay i thought you were in one of the wildfires… haha. okay
have fun! =) come to so cal some time if you ever have the chance
please! =)

N: that is funny! i am looking for studios to teach at in so cal! maybe you can put in a good word for me…

-------

I don’t know I just thought this was kinda funny though. Oh and
minutes later I see that her status now reads “N is in the fire of
transformation!” Haha.

I love it. This past week I walked the beach trail with L in the mornings, had breakfast with L or friends after walking, relaxed at the beach with a good book in the afternoon, went to our regular yoga class in the evenings, went out with friends to hear some live music one night this week, attended a special yoga workshop yesterday, and ate some good home-cooked meals (made by L of course). This morning I went on a hunt for some specialized antibiotics (that my cat desperately needs). This afternoon L and I contributed to our friend's neuroscience research (electrodes on our head and everything). We went to the neighborhood pub for dinner. And this evening I am doing absolutely nothing. Well writing this blog entry I guess. On a side note: I was a total poser in this yoga workshop, the theme being adjustments, for current or future yoga teachers. L wanted me to go with him 'cause for learning about adjustments they often have you work in partners and he wanted to work with me as his partner. Well we forgot that usually they keep making you switch partners until you've worked with everyone in the class. And I didn't want to switch partners and work with strangers. After all I'm not the one that might be interestsed in being yoga instructor someday. So L and I just didn't follow directions and we remained partners with each other for the entire workshop. Ha we are such rebels. In which case rebels = bad sports. Haha. Oh and on another side note, we found the most awesome compounding pharmacist. I talked to this compounding pharmacist guy for like five minutes on the phone, and then another five minutes in person when I went to pick up my cat's antibiotics. If I had only called the number for his pharmacy first. Prior to talking to him I wasted a lot of time talking to a number of people who couldn't even convert g to mg or compare cc to ml properly, or had no suggestions as to how I could get exactly what I wanted without either paying a hundred bucks extra for a quantity I didn't need, or just putting me on hold only to tell me that the person with the answers was not in and would return at some undetermined time... grrr frustrating. I don't think I quite realize the amount of bad service and incompetence I normally put up with in daily life until someone displays such an impressive amount of competency and such outstanding service to an extent where the customer is left stunned and speechless. I was such a customer today and I felt like "thank you" was such an understatement. I really do appreciate and am thankful for people and places like this one compounding pharmacy I went to today. It's difficult to adequately convey this appreciation in words though. Okay that's the end of my side notes. While I haven't been having a cool summer literally (it's been extra hot and humid for here), I can't say that I haven't been having one hell of a nice time recently. No complaints here. Life is good.

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Holy cow is it hot here! One of the few times during the year that I wish we had air conditioning. We walked the beach trail in the morning and there were already a ton of people at the beach preparing to try and keep cool on another predicted day of record-breaking heat. In the afternoon we decided to go see a movie to escape the heat (Iron Man... loved it) and then in the evening it was still so hot that we actually went to go exercise just because our little work-out room at our condo complex has really cold air conditioning! The temperature is really lovely here most of the time but recently it's been ridiculous. Poor Meow is lying around all wilted looking and I totally feel like I am melting!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Yay it's finally summer break. Yesterday morning I cut a bunch of fresh
fruit and ate it at a leisurely pace out on the patio... never have
time to do that during a regular school day. Then I went to the new library
with L. Where I enjoyed using the free wifi in a cozy reading nook
with an ocean view as L interviewed someone for his research at one
of the tables out on the balcony. Then we went to the Caribbean burrito place
for lunch. Mmmm... fried plaintains are so yummy. In the afternoon we
were planning to hike the bluffs by the beach but my ankle was acting
up again so we just stayed at home. Until we had to go out and buy a
new home network router because our old one just up and died on us. So
we did that. And then we went to yoga. And then we went to the boba
cafe place for dinner since we have been bad about grocery shopping and
our fridge is completely empty. And then we came home where I proceeded
to ice my ankle while being a total slug in front of the television...
flipping channels and surfing the internet all evening. Thank you for
sharing my "fascinating" first day of summer break with me. I am
seriously loving it so far though.
